The Mysteries of Digital Photography

Sun Oct 18, 2009, 1:05 PM
Maybe there's something I'm missing, but I prefer my 35mm camera. Granted, I would have paid a lot more for film and developing by now, but at least I wouldn't have got my hopes up regarding what little photographic talent I actually have.

Here is what I thought was a good photo...

...and here are some pictures of the print itself:

I think it's time to put away the camera for a while. I have a lot of photos that I wanted to post, but receiving that print in the mail really threw a wrench in my mental wheels. That's why I haven't been around.

I guess I'll be doing more learning from the rest of you. There are a lot of photos, journals and projects that I've been meaning to view, and maybe now is the time to do just that. I don't think I'll be doing any critiques, though. Who would take them seriously when my own photos look like shit off-screen...?

Featured Artist & Author: ~BillieChiasson & ~honeysucklerose

~BillieChiasson, photographer and model, is a breath of fresh air in the world of fashion. Her photos celebrate a woman's individuality and inner beauty--qualities that are underlined, rather than stifled by the clothes they wear.

~honeysucklerose is a yin and yang of metal and lace. Her poems and music show the strength and softness that are woven into a woman's spirit.

I wanted to be a gypsy
Wild, ravened roses
And bells of cinnamon
In my hair
A satchel of stardust
Bouncing from my hip

I Wanted to be round
Botticelli, ethereal
Grace
And long and delicate
Pixie, lithe

I wanted to be soft
Smoke, crawling
Like an ivory snake
Spreading in waves
Across the earth
I wanted to be wanted

I wanted to be a woman
Unraveling
The intricate
Most labyrinthine
Threads of my fabric
To expose
My most beautiful
Most secret self
I wanted to be discovered

I wanted to be seen

Featured Artist: *MichelleLynn725

*MichelleLynn725 is an artist to be reckoned with. Tapping into primal instincts, her surreal sculptures, photographs and paintings evoke powerful emotions one might not even know one had. "Dreams within dreams" describes her works best.

You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet if hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.

--Excerpt, "A Dream Within a Dream," Edgar Allan Poe

Featured Artist & Author: ~OneMansWreck and ~demonika

~OneMansWreck is, arguably, a photographic Dr. Frankenstein of architecture, skillfully breathing life into dying buildings. His reincarnations, however, are not the light and cheery type. Rather, his striking photographs remind one of the eerie beauty of an undead bride.

~demonika's evocative poems speak for themselves. She is a multi-disciplined wordsmith, one who weaves visual and aural constructions into beautiful, surreal tapestries.

Whispers the house, to the waiting girl.
I'm lonely.
Once I was, envied, proud.
My walls stood true, my profile sharp.
I was desired.

Says the house, to the watching girl.
Time passed.
Love faded, lessened, went.
Earth reclaimed, what was stolen.
I've grown old.

Cries the house, to the standing girl.
I'm ruined.
Forgotten, dying, left to rot
Silence echoes, in empty hallways.
Save me.

Screams the house, to the silent girl.
I want you.
Come inside, never, leave me.
Fill the spaces, with all you are.
I'm hungry.

The girl says nothing, to the wailing house.
No sound.
Perfect lips, resolutely, still.
Green Ivy holds her icy hand.
How can a statue.
Speak?

Thank you so much for all the favorites! Not many people take time to tell you what they think of your stuff (which naturally makes it harder to learn) so I really appreciate all of your support! :glomp:
